'Dogs stumble against Lobos

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team fell in straight sets to New Mexico on Saturday afternoon at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (6-16, 0-10 MW) dropped sets, 25-27, 24-26, 22-25 to New Mexico (13-7, 4-6 MW) despite holding a late second set lead that altered the course of the match.
How It Happened
The opening set saw the Lobos jump out to a 12-4 lead, but the 'Dogs clawed their way back to a 17-17 tie after blocks from Addison Haluska and Kasey Purry. A service ace by Brooke Cowie and another pair of blocks from Haluska and Purry put the Bulldogs ahead a pair before UNM came back to knot the set at 19 and after ties at 20, 21, 24 & 25, the Lobos came out with the two final critical points on a service error by the 'Dogs and a service ace.
A close second set saw the 'Dogs surge ahead with a 4-0 run to break a 18-18 tie getting a kill by Hannah Waters, blocks from Purry and Keller and a pair of attack errors from the Lobos to go up 22-18. A kill by Olivia Keller put the Bulldogs up 23-20 and after an attack error by the Lobos gave the 'Dogs set point leading 24-22, UNM answered back with four straight points to seal the comeback set win.
Looking to get on the board in the third set, the Lobos broke a 5-5 tie and never looked back as the 'Dogs were able to cut UNM's lead to three on four different occasions and a kill by Ella Rud got the 'Dogs within two, a service error by the Bulldogs gave the Lobos the sweep.

The Bulldogs head out on the road next week traveling to Wyoming (9-13, 5-5 MW) on Thursday and Colorado State (14-6, 7-2 MW) on Saturday.

Notables
- It was only the 'Dogs third loss in 11 meetings at home against New Mexico as members of the Mountain West.
- The Bulldogs were only swept for the fourth time this season.
- Rud led the 'Dogs in kills for the 15th time this season recording 15 and reached double figure kills for the 17th time.
- Waters posted her ninth double-double this season finishing with 10 assists and 10 digs.
