OUTLOOK FROM HEAD COACH JASON DRAKE
On his team heading into the championship meet…
"Hard to imagine we are already at the conference meet, but this is always the meet we try to focus on. All season our team's goal has been to be better than the week before, and so far, we have done that. Both teams have made big strides through the year and we hope to do it one more time."
"Mo [Saleh] continues to race and train well, excited to see how he can do. Corie [Smith], Shaylee [Grimm], Mia [Jauregui], and Morgan [Hutchison] have all made nice improvements from our first competition, so we're excited to get them back out in a uniform one more time."
On what he's looking for…
"This meet is simply about beating other people. We match up well with a couple teams on both sides and we hope to cash in on our fitness and beat a few teams."
"Altitude races are a challenge for the sea level teams. The key is to run smart, pay attention to how we feel early and not get caught up with the teams up front. Our conference right now is one of the best in the country in cross country. The women's meet is extremely deep this year so we have to be careful not to get out too fast with the likes of New Mexico."
A LOOK BACK
Corie Smith moved up to ninth on the program's 6K list with a time of 21:21.8 at the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif. It was 26 seconds faster than her time from a month earlier. Mohamed Saleh narrowly missed the program's 8K Top 25 at the Bronco Invitational, clocking a career-best 24:46.6 for the men.
GROWING FROM WITHIN THE VALLEY
Of Fresno State's 16 cross country athletes, 14 of them call the Central Valley home. Both the men's and women's team have seven each from the Valley.
