Three 'Dogs head to NCAA West Regional

FRESNO, Calif. – With regional weekend about to get underway, Fresno State will send three of its athletes to the Seattle area to compete at the NCAA West Regional on Friday. The Bulldogs top runners all season, Corie Smith, Shaylee Grimm and Mohamed Saleh will test themselves against the best that the west has to offer.

Of Fresno State's 16 cross country athletes, 14 of them call the Central Valley home. Both the men's and women's team have seven each from the Valley.

A LOOK AT THE SEASON FOR THE TRIO
- Since joining the Bulldogs this fall, Corie Smith was the top finisher for the 'Dogs on the women's side in the first four meets of the season. She owns the ninth-best 6K time in program history of 21:21.8 which she set at the Bronco Invitational, the fourth race of the year.
- Second for the women throughout the first four meets, Shylee Grimm was the top finisher for the women at the Mountain West Championships. With a time of 22:41.5, the sophomore recorded the fastest championship meet time by a Bulldog at an elevation above 3,000 feet since Annemarie Schwanz in Colorado Springs, Colo. in 2013 (22:08.53).
- Mohamed Saleh has led the Bulldog men all season. At the Bronco Invitational he clocked a career-best time of 24:46.6, narrowly missing the program's 8K Top 25.
GROWING FROM WITHIN THE VALLEY
Of Fresno State's 16 cross country athletes, 14 of them call the Central Valley home. Both the men's and women's team have seven each from the Valley.
- Narrowing it down to Fresno/Clovis, the men have two athletes from Fresno (Sam Hawley, Paean Ocampo). The women have four, all whom competed at Buchanan High School (Gianna Chiaramonte, Morgan Hutchison, Mia Jauregui and Corie Smith).
