FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team fell in straight sets to UNLV on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (7-21, 1-15 MW) dropped sets to Mountain West leader UNLV (24-3, 15-1 MW), 17-25, 23-25, 20-25.
Prior to the start of the match, the 'Dogs honored their lone senior, outside hitter Lauren Sabbatini, who has appeared in 76 matches and 231 sets in her career at Fresno State.
How It Happened
The opening set saw an even 10-10 start before a 7-0 run by UNLV broke open the set as a solo block by Grace Doyle ended the run. A service error and back-to-back kills by Doyle and Ella Rud cut the Rebels' lead to 18-14, but a 5-0 run by the Rebels put UNLV up nine as they went on for the eight-point set win.
The second set saw the Bulldogs get off to a hot start leading 9-3 after a service ace by Hannah Waters. The Rebels answered back with a 12-4 run to take a 15-13 lead at the media timeout and after ties at 15, 16 & 18, the 'Dogs took their final lead of the set at 19-18 after a kill by Doyle. UNLV answered back with a 5-0 run to go up 23-19, but a 4-0 run by the 'Dogs knotted the set at 23 apiece. Looking to close in on the set win, the Rebels came up with the final two points of the set after a service error and attack error by the 'Dogs.
