SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team fell in straight sets to San Jose State on Thursday evening at Spartan Gym.
Fresno State (7-22, 1-16 MW) was led by Ella Rud with 10 kills, her 22nd match this season reaching double digit kills, while dropping sets, 23-25, 21-25, 22-25.
How It Happened
Getting out to a 12-12 tie in the opening set after a kill by Grace Doyle, the Spartans went on a 6-2 run to open up an 18-14 advantage. With a kill by Rud halting SJSU's momentum, the 'Dogs answered back with an 8-3 run taking a 22-21 lead after a service ace by Addison Haluska, but four of the final five points of the hard-fought set went to San Jose State.
The Spartans took that late momentum from set one into set two jumping out to a 12-2 lead with the 'Dogs having to play catchup the remainder of the set getting within three on a pair of occasions, but ultimately dropped the set by four.
The third set saw early ties at seven, 12 & 15 before the Spartans used a 7-3 run to jump ahead 22-18 and after a service ace by Rud got the 'Dogs back within two at 24-22, a kill by the Spartans completed the sweep.
