'Dogs stumble against Aggies

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team fell in straight sets on Thursday evening to Utah State at the Save Mart Center.
Led by 11 kills from Grace Doyle, the Bulldogs dropped sets 15-25, 25-27, 21-25 to Utah State (16-8, 8-5 MW).
How It Happened
Getting off to a slow start in the opening set, Utah State raced out to a 13-2 lead extending it to as large as 14 at 21-7. A brief 8-3 run by Fresno State brought the 'Dogs back within nine at 24-15, but an Aggie kill gave the visitors the early 1-0 set lead.
Looking to even the match in the second set, the Bulldogs kept pace with the Aggies in the early going tying the set at 17 apiece after an attack error. A 4-0 run by USU put the Aggies ahead 22-18, but a 6-2 run by the 'Dogs that included four kills, a block assist from Doyle and Brooke Cowie and a USU attack error tied the set at 24. After another tie at 25, the Aggies were able to secure a kill and service ace for the hard-fought set win.
With 11 ties in set three, the 'Dogs held a slim 17-16 lead after a kill from Doyle, but a 7-0 run by the Aggies put USU ahead 23-17. A pair of attack errors and a block assist by Kasey Purry and Cowie brought the Bulldogs back within three at 23-20, but the Aggies secured two of the final three points of the set to complete the sweep.
Notables
The Bulldogs close out the weekend on Saturday afternoon hosting Boise State (14-9, 6-6 MW) at 1 p.m. It is Heroes/Veterans Day Appreciation with free admission for all Veterans, active duty, first responders, essential workers.

- Doyle led the Bulldogs in kills for the sixth time this season and it was her 17th double-digit kill contest.
- It was only Fresno State's second loss to Utah State at home as a member of the Mountain West.
