'Dogs earn victory over Broncos in four sets

FRESNO, Calif. - Behind a career-high 24 kills from Ella Rud, the Fresno State volleyball team earned its first Mountain West victory of the season on Saturday afternoon defeating Boise State in four sets at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (7-19, 1-13 MW) took sets, 25-10, 25-20, 23-25, 25-15 over Boise State (14-11, 6-8 MW).
How It Happened
The Bulldogs got off to a hot start in the opening set jumping out to a 7-1 lead after a service ace by Sydney Gazzaniga. A kill by Rud extended the 'Dogs lead to 19-9 and the Bulldogs closed out the set on a 6-0 run with three kills, a service ace by Addison Haluska, block assists from Grace Doyle and Brooke Cowie and an attack error by the Broncos.
Falling behind 19-13 in the second set, the 'Dogs closed out the set on a 12-1 run winning the final seven points of the match.
Looking to complete their first sweep since topping Santa Clara on Sept. 10, the Broncos were able to stave off a sweep breaking a 23-23 tie with the final two points of the sweep on an attack error and service ace.
Closing out the match in the fourth set, a service ace by Lauren Sabbatini put the 'Dogs up 16-9. The Broncos closed the gap to as few as five at 20-15, but the Bulldogs notched the set's final five points getting four kills from Olivia Keller and one more from Doyle to seal the victory.

- The 'Dogs improved to 3-7 at home against Boise State as members of the Mountain West.
- Rud eclipsed her previous career high of 22 kills set last Saturday at Colorado State.
- Cowie also set a career high in assists finishing with 49 to surpass her previous high of 31 set at CSU Bakersfield (Sept. 17, 2022).
- Keller also breezed past her previous career high of 10 kills to finish with 15, her third game this season with double digit kills.
- Fresno State set a season best in hitting percentage (.393) to surpass its previous best of .387 vs. Seattle on Sept. 2.
