'Dogs finish day two in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Fresno State softball team wrapped the second day of the CFX Classic hosted by UCF on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1 vs. No. 12 Georgia – Georgia opened the game with two home runs to plate four runs in the opening frame.
Georgia added three more runs in the next inning after drawing three consecutive walks, registering a hit by pitch and a single. Fresno State got on the board in the bottom of the frame. Kacey Hvitved reached on an error by the shortstop. Alyssa Orr recorded her first collegiate hit with an RBI triple to bring in the first run of the day for the 'Dogs.
Georgia tabbed three runs in the next two innings to make it a 10-1 game. Fresno State recorded a three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth after Hivitved and Taryn Irigoyen reached base and Orr brought them home with her first homer of the year.
Georgia and Fresno State both added a run in the final inning. Georgia would take the win 11-5.
Game 2 vs. UCF – The Knights, coming off an upset over No. 12 Georgia, put up a three-run inning to open the contest. UCF drew back-to-back walks to put two runners on base and followed with a home run to clear the bases.
The Knights added another run in the third inning after a one-out triple put a runner in scoring position to be driven home by a single to center field. Fresno State held UCF without a hit for the next two innings before the Knights extended their lead to 6-0 in the sixth inning.
The Bulldogs avoided a shutout when Hvitved hit a leadoff single to start the seventh. Alesia Denby reached first on an error by the second baseman and Avery Lawley would follow with a drawn walk to load the bases. The Bulldogs capitalized on an error made by the shortstop to plate their first run of the game with two outs. The Knights dished a strikeout for the final out to come away with the win, 6-1.
What's next – Fresno State will face Minnesota tomorrow at 6 a.m. PT.
