'Dogs wrap up CFX Classic

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Fresno State softball team wrapped up the CFX Tournament hosted by UCF on Sunday afternoon, falling to Minnesota 7-3.
Sophomore Alyssa Orr went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI, logging her second game of the weekend with multiple hits. Fellow sophomore Keahilele Mattson also recorded a multi-hit game going 2-for-3. Senior Marley Hanlon started the game for the Bulldogs in the circle, recording three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State struck first with three consecutive singles in the opening frame to take a 1-0 lead over Minnesota. The Gophers recorded two hits in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
The Bulldogs retook the lead with a leadoff home run from Kacey Hvitved in the top of the third. Minnesota responded with back-to-back doubles, retying the game 2-2.
In the fourth inning, Alesia Denby hit a single and Bailey Williams drew a walk to get two runners on base. Keahilele Mattson hit an RBI single to give the 'Dogs a 3-2 advantage. The bottom half of the frame opened with three consecutive Gophers reaching base, and a sacrifice fly would plate two runs.
Minnesota extended its lead in the bottom of the sixth with a single and a home run to tack on three additional runs. The Bulldogs had two runners on base in the bottom top of the seventh with one out, but a double play would secure the win for the Gophers.

The Bulldogs will host UC Davis Feb. 19-20 at Margie Wright Diamond.
