Fresno State (16-10) defended well – especially early – but couldn’t muster enough offense in falling to San Diego State on Saturday.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's basketball team lost 61-44 to the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday night at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (16-10, 6-7 Mountain West), who is jockeying for seeding and a potential first round bye in the upcoming Mountain West Championships in early March, struggled offensively despite building an early lead and getting a crisp 15 points off the hands of Isaiah Hill, including four 3-pointers.
Meanwhile, San Diego State (17-6, 9-3 MW) turned in a career-high 20 points from Chad Baker-Mazara, including 13 of those in the first half, to hand the Bulldogs their fourth straight loss.
How it happened: Fresno State jumped out to a 13-6 lead midway through the first half behind a stalwart defense and by attacking the paint, but SDSU countered with an 11-0 run and never trailed the rest of the way.
The Bulldogs shot just 34.1 percent from the field (14-for-41) and committed 14 turnovers, while the Aztecs responded from their slow start with 55 of the 61 points in the final 30 minutes of the contest.
