No. 8 'Dogs earn home victory

Fresno State defeats UC Davis 15-4 at the Student Horse Center on Saturday.
FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 8 Fresno State equestrian team put an end to its losing skid on Saturday as it defeated UC Davis 15-4 at the Student Horse Center. The 15 points scored in the win are the most for the 'Dogs this season, and most since scoring 16 against UC Davis on Mar. 30, 2019. The Bulldogs move to 4-1 at home this season and look towards Senior Day next week.

Fresno State was in control in all four events, earning three Most Outstanding Performer honors in the meet. The 'Dogs swept the western MOPs as Lexee Padrick earned the award in the reining and Hannah Buijs was named horsemanship MOP. Ana Bertozzi won the MOP in the fences. It was the first MOP of the season for Bertozzi, while Padrick earned her second and Buijs earned her third.

How it happened
The afternoon began with horsemanship and fences. The Bulldogs had their best fences showing of the season, winning the event 4-1. The 'Dogs picked up points in the event from Bertozzi, Olivia Ferro, Grace Mathias and Lizzie Stodden.

The 'Dogs also had their best outing of the season in the horsemanship, finishing 4-1 in the event. Buijs scored a 76.5 in her MOP ride while Kameron Thorn, Alex Krebs and Emily Maul also earned their points. Maul has now won four-straight horsemanship points for the 'Dogs.

At the intermission, Fresno State led 8-2.

Fresno State earned its first sweep in any event this season with a 5-0 victory in the reining. Padrick earned the MOP honor with a 70.5 ride. Addison Welman, Ashley Jackson, Hannah Hieber and Bailey Alexander won the remaining four points in the event for Fresno State. Alexander continues her success in the arena, now having won six-straight points.

The teams tied 2-2 in the flat, with a tie by Bertozzi. Cecily Hayes and Taylor Holstead won the two points for Fresno State, closing the win for the 'Dogs.

Up Next - Fresno State returns to Big 12 action next week, hosting Baylor on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Student Horse Center. The Bulldogs will honor 10 riders in part of their Senior Day ceremony next week - Bailey Alexander, Hannah Buijs, Cecily Hayes, Brooklyn Moch, Lexee Padrick, Alexis Steele, Kameron Thorn, Madisen Torigiani, Anna Wegenast, and Addison Welman.
