The Fresno State men’s golf team finished in solo second and Michael Cliff also finished in outright second individually in the 2022 GCU Invitational in Phoenix.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's golf team delivered an impressive showing by finishing alone in second place in the 2022 GCU Invitational in Phoenix.
After playing into darkness on Monday, the Bulldogs and the rest of the field returned to GCU Championship Golf Course to complete the second round and then battled in a competitive final round on Tuesday.
Fresno State shot a 14-under-par 834 in the three-round event to finish just four strokes of tournament host and winner GCU, but the Bulldogs shot one of the best rounds all week in the third and final round.
In the individual competition, Michael Cliff soared up the leaderboard in the final round with a tournament-low 64 (-7) in the final round to secure solo second – just two strokes back of UTA's Kyle Cox, who held on to win at 11-under-par.
Cliff's career-best of 64 is the 11th round of 64 or better (and just the third in a final round) in the Bulldogs' storied program history.
