'Dogs falter in doubleheader

Junior Alesia Denby led the Bulldogs at the plate going 4-for-6 on the day with one home run. Senior right-handed pitcher Casey Dixon logged the most innings in the circle, recording 7.1 innings and five strikeouts.
Game 1 – The Bulldogs were overwhelmed by the Broncos' offense, falling 13-5 in six innings.
Denby and Alana Cobb-Adams both recorded multi-hit games, tallying two hits apiece. Fresno State had three different pitchers see time in the circle, with Cassidy West chalking the start.
Fresno State opened the game with back-to-back hits to put two runners on. Cobb-Adams stole home to record the first run of the game. Kacey Hvitved got on base off an error made by the third baseman and prompted a pickle situation to allow Keahilele Mattson to steal home.
Boise State cut the deficit in half after a leadoff walk and a double plated a run for the Broncos in the bottom of the frame.
Boise State took the lead in the next inning with four runs off three home runs. The Bulldogs responded with two runs in the top of the fourth to make it a 6-4 game.
The Broncos ignited their offense to score seven runs through the next three innings to end the game after six with a 13-5 victory.
Game 2 – The Bulldogs fell to the Broncos 4-3 in a hard-fought battle in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Bulldogs recorded nine hits in the contest, with three players tallying multiple hits. Dixon went the distance in the circle, recording four strikeouts.
The game was a pitchers' duel through the first four innings, neither allowing a run to cross home plate.
Fresno State struck first with a leadoff solo home run off the bat of Kacey Hvitved. The 'Dogs kept the momentum going with a base-hit from Bailey Williams, followed by a double off the wall from Mattson to score another run. Avery Lawley brought in the third run of the inning with a single into center field.
Dixon and the Bulldogs' defense kept the Broncos off the scoreboard through the next two innings to take a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning.
Boise State broke through with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Broncos were able to complete the comeback with a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of seventh.
What's next – Fresno State will finish the series against Boise State tomorrow at Noon PT.
