3/5/2022 4:35:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Orlando Robinson scored a career-high 34 points in the Bulldogs' 68-64 overtime loss at Wyoming.
LARAMIE, Wyo. – These Bulldogs have heart.
In playing its second road game against a Quad 1 opponent in less than 48 hours, a resilient Fresno State men's basketball team showed up.
Ultimately, the 'Dogs came up just short again -- falling 68-64 in overtime to the Wyoming Cowboys on Saturday afternoon at Arena-Auditorium.
Fresno State junior forward Orlando Robinson scored a career-high 34 points with nine rebounds, five assists, three blocks and one steal, while Wyoming needed a full 45 minutes from Hunter Maldonado and Drake Jefferies, along with Xavier DuSell going for 21 points to edge the 'Dogs.
The focus now turns to Las Vegas, with the win-or-go-home MW Championships starting on Wednesday with first round action.
How it happened: Fresno State (18-12, 8-9 Mountain West) overcame multiple double-digit deficits in a consistently physical contest, which featured 12 lead changes and four ties.
With 6.3 seconds remaining in regulation, the Bulldogs' defense was tasked with holding a 57-55 lead as Maldonado attacked the basket.
Jordan Campbell defended Maldonado well and nearly came up with a game-sealing block, but instead was whistled for a foul with just 0.2 seconds remaining and Maldonado converted both free throws to force the extra session at Wyoming (24-7, 13-5 MW).
Fresno State continued to battle and led 59-58 with under two minutes to go in overtime when Robinson made a tough two through contact.
Wyoming answered with a 7-0 spurt to take the lead for good, even though the 'Dogs did manage to pull within a possession twice in the closing moments.
Next up: Fresno State opens the 2022 MW Championships as the No. 6 seed and faces 11th-seeded San Jose State on Wednesday at 4 p.m. PT.
