'Dogs suffer setback in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team dropped the series opener to San Jose State 4-0, on Friday evening at the Spartan Softball Complex.
Fresno State was out-hit 9-4 in the contest, with the four hits coming from different Bulldogs. Casey Dixon logged the start in the circle, and Cassidy West entered the game in relief. West tied her career-high with seven strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a quiet first inning, SJSU took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Spartans tallied the first hit of the game with a two-out triple to left field, then followed with three consecutive singles to bring in the first run oand load the bases. SJSU tacked on another single through the middle to score two more runs before the Bulldogs made a pitching change to get the final out.
The Spartans extended their lead in the next inning with one run on two hits.
Fresno State loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with a single from Avery Lawley and two drawn walks, but SJSU sent down the next two batters to strand the three runners.
Alyssa Orr rallied for a two-out single to third base in the top of the seventh, but the Spartans retired the final batter to secure the win.

Fresno State and San Jose State will continue the series tomorrow at 3 p.m. PT.
