HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Colorado State took an early 3-0 lead. The Rams tallied three runs on four hits in the opening frame.
Fresno State put one on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. Denby got the offense going with a leadoff single and moved her way around the bases. She stole home on a wild pitch to score the Bulldogs' first run of the game.
Hanlon sent the Rams down in order to start the fourth, bringing the 'Dogs back up to the plate. Fresno State had a big inning, scoring four runs on five hits. Avery Lawley hit a leadoff single and Alyssa Orr followed with a one-out single to put runners on the corners. Colorado State dished a strikeout to make it two outs with two runners on. Keahilele Mattson belted a clutch two-out single through the left side to bring in a run. The 'Dogs sent another runner across home plate on a passed ball. Denby continued the two-out rally with a two-RBI double to center field. Fresno State took a 5-3 lead.
The Rams made it a one-run game in the fifth after scoring one run on one hit.
Fresno State tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. The first two batters of the inning reached base for the 'Dogs. Orr hit into a fielder's choice that took out the runner at second, but then stole second base to keep runners in scoring position. The 'Dogs scored on the next at-bat after capitalizing on a miscue of the Rams' defense.Â
