'Dogs announce 2022 slate
6/1/2022 10:04:00 AM | Women's Soccer
FRESNO, Calif. – With less than three months before the opening of the 2022 soccer season, Fresno State has unveiled its schedule for the fall. Coming off the program's highest finish in the Mountain West, matching the 2013 team, optimism is high as the Bulldogs lost just one starter from 2021.
Like a year ago when the 'Dogs finished second with a 7-3-1 in conference, 9-6-4 overall, the team will again open the season in the Pacific Northwest. This time around, Fresno State will face Washington in its season opener on Aug. 18. The following week, the Bulldogs will host Oregon State in its home opener (Aug. 25). These two Pac-12 matches come after an exhibition trip to UCLA on Aug. 13.
While the graduation of Robyn McCarthy, the league's Defensive Player of the Year is significant, the 'Dogs welcome back four all-conference players in Chais Wright and Kassandra Ceja who were first team selections along with the sophomore duo of Kaelyn Miller and Sam Tristan who were placed on the second team in their first year. Also, back from injury is Lorena Montanes, a 2021 spring All-MW selection, who missed the bulk of last fall to injury.
HOME SCHEDULE AT A GLANCE
Fresno State will host two games during nonconference play. After traveling to Corvallis in 2021, the 'Dogs will host Oregon State in its home opener on Aug. 25. Pacific also makes a return trip to Fresno on Sept. 4.
The Bulldogs open Mountain West play in late September with four straight games at home, first hosting Colorado College on Sept. 22 and Air Force on Sept. 25. The 'Dogs then welcome UNLV (Sept. 29) and Nevada (Oct. 2) the following week. Fresno State's final two home contests will come against Boise State on Oct. 13 with Senior Day taking place on Oct. 16 against Utah State.

HEAD COACH BRIAN ZWASCHKA'S OUTLOOK
"We made it a point to really challenge our returning group this spring with contests against top teams from Pac-12, West Coast Conference and Big West. Our fall ambitions are no less robust in preparation for conference play. The opposition is high quality and will challenge us to be sure we know ourselves inside and out and to raise our game as high as possible. We also have a lot of useful travel in our non-conference schedule to be sure we understand the demands we'll be facing in league play.
"Our returning group rose to the challenges during our spring season. Not just the challenges of difficult opposition, but especially the developmental challenges we proposed, and the responsibility of returning as the best possible representatives of our program when we finally get to integrate them with our exceptional and exciting new group in August."
