Diamond 'Dogs wrap up summer ball

FRESNO, Calif. - With the start of classes next week and the return of the Diamond 'Dogs to campus, let's take a final look at how the 10Â Bulldogs in action wrapped up summer league action.
Payton Allen, Infielder, Portland Pickles
Allen played in 46 of the Pickles' 52 games this summer hitting .206 from the plate with 32 hits collecting four doubles and one home run.
The soon-to-be senior from Visalia drove in 16 RBI, scored 22 runs and drew 17 walks while adding four sacrifice flies & four stolen bases.
Allen has notched a hit in 24 games this summer with eight multi-hit games and had a pair of doubles, RBI and a scored run in a 10-1 win over the Springfield Drifters on July 12.
Portland went 15-9 in the first half of the season and 21-7 in the second half to finish the regular season 36-16 overall and second in the South Division in the West Coast League.
The Pickles saw their summer wrap up on Aug. 10 taking on Ridgefield in the WCL playoffs falling 7-5 in the final game.
Bobby Blandford, Outfielder, Duluth Huskies
Blandford played in 35 games for the Huskies this summer in Minnesota in the Northwoods League hitting .232 from the dish.
He collected 26 hits, including seven doubles, two triples, drove in 12 RBI, scored 16 runs and drew 18 walks. Tallying seven multi-hit contests and a hit in 16 games, the Pleasant Grove native drove in a season-best four RBI on July 7 in a 12-11 win over the Bismark Larks.
Duluth won the first half of the Great Plains East Division in the Northwoods League with a 19-14 overall record and went 15-19 in the second half to finish 34-33 overall.
The Huskies advanced to the Northwoods League playoffs where they defeated the Eau Claire Express in a pair of games and will take on the Willmar Stingers in the divisional championship game on Tuesday night in a win-or-go home matchup.
Tyler Davis, Catcher, Humboldt Crabs
Davis played in 38 games for the Humboldt Crabs this summer leading the team in at-bats (160), hits (60), doubles (14), triples (3). home runs (8), RBI (60) and ranked second with 38 runs scored.
The Fresno native hit .375 from the plate while slugging a team-best .650 and notched a .425 on-base percentage.
Davis went an impressive 5-for-6 with a pair of doubles, three RBI, three runs scored on July 31 against Seals Baseball.
The Crabs posted a 36-10 record this summer winning its final 13 games.
Tommy Hopfe, Pitcher, Orleans Firebirds
Making his way to the Cape Cod League this summer, Hopfe made a team-leading 14 relief appearances on the mound for the Firebirds this summer tossing 23.2 innings.
The Bakersfield native tied for fifth on the team with 23 strikeouts while tying for second with three wins and only allowed five earned runs in the regular season while posting a 1.90 ERA.
In a tough 12-11 loss to the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the playoffs on Aug. 4, Hopfe went 1.1 innings allowing four earned runs in his final appearance of the summer.
The Firebirds went 18-22 overall before falling in a pair of games to the Y-D Red Sox in the CCL playoffs.
Ben Newton, Infielder, Anchorage Glacier Pilots
Newton appeared in 33 games for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots this summer hitting .311 from the dish with 38 hits, including six doubles, three triples, 15 RBI, 16 walks and 23 runs scored.
The Albany, Calif. native collected a hit in 24 contests with nine multi-hit games, including a three-hit performance against the Chugiak Chinooks on July 29
The Glacier Pilots went 30-9 on the season winning their final seven regular season games and won the Alaska Baseball League defeating the Mat Su Miners, 6-2 on Aug. 2 to be crowned the Top of the World Champions.
Will Springer, Pitcher, Crystal Lake Cardinals
Springer made five appearances and one start with the Crystal Lake Cardinals this summer.
In eight innings of work, the Hanford native only allowed five hits, one earned run and struck out 10.
He notched a win on June 23 over the Addison Braves striking out four in four innings.
The Cardinals went 14-12 on the season and closed out the regular season with an 11-5 loss to the Lombard Orioles on July 27.
Blake Wink, Infielder, Portland Pickles
Wink played in 16 games for the Pickles this summer with eight hits while scoring seven runs and drove in five RBI.
In a 13-6 win over the Walla Walla Sweets, the Yorba Linda native tallied a triple, two RBI and scored two runs on July 8.
The Pickles saw their summer wrap up on Aug. 10 taking on Ridgefield in the WCL playoffs falling 7-5 in the final game.
Carson Revay, Pitcher, Rochester Honkers (Incoming freshman)
Revay, a soon-to-be freshman pitcher from Stockton, appeared in 13 games in relief for the Rochester Honkers in the Northwest League.
He went 2-2 with a 2.16 ERA on the season tossing 16.2 innings allowing 12 hits, four earned runs and struck out 13.
The Honkers went 15-19 in the first half of the season and 17-17 in the second half wrapping up the season on Aug. 14 with a 13-5 loss to the Eau Claire Express.
Jett Ruby, Infielder, Crystal Lake Cardinals (incoming freshman)
Ruby played in six games this summer for the Cardinals. The 2022 Buchanan graduate, who will be a freshman this fall for the Bulldogs, had 10 hits, three doubles, one triple, five RBI and nine runs scored.
In a 9-7 win over the Joliet Dirtbags on June 22, Ruby had three hits with a double, RBI and a run scored.
The Cardinals went 14-12 on the season and closed out the regular season with an 11-5 loss to the Lombard Orioles on July 27.
Travis Welker, Infielder, Ridgefield Raptors
Welker earned First Team All-West Coast League honors after appearing in 45 contests tallying 57 hits with seven doubles adding 24 RBI and 35 runs scored.
The Santa Ynez, Calif. native ranked third on the team with eight stolen bases and hit .331 from the dish.
Recording 19 multi-hit games, Welker had a season-best four base knocks on June 22 in a 6-5 win at Portland with a pair of RBI and scored a run.
The Raptors went 32-21 overall on the summer in the WCL South Division going 16-10 in the first half and 16-11 in the second half. Ridgefield defeated Portland in a pair of games before falling to Corvallis, 5-2 on Aug. 13.
