'Dogs top Roadrunners in four sets

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bulldog volleyball team wrapped up the Central California Challenge on Saturday evening defeating CSU Bakersfield in four sets at the Icardo Center.
Fresno State (6-6) topped CSU Bakersfield (3-9), 27-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-20 behind a double-double from Ella Rud who led the Bulldogs with 13 kills and 10 digs.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs got the opening set started, leading by as many as four at 14-10 before the Roadrunners went on a 7-4 run to tie the set at 17. With a kill by Kasey Purry putting the 'Dogs up 25-24 and just shy of set point, CSUB was able to tie the set at 25 before back-to-back kills by Purry and Rud gave Fresno State an early lead.
The Roadrunners evened the match at one set apiece with a narrow 26-24 win in the second set. The set saw ties at 21, 22, 23 & 24 before CSUB escaped with the final two points of the set on a service error and kill.
An even start to the third set saw a 13-13 draw with the 'Dogs using a 7-3 run to take a 20-16 lead. A kill by Purry kept the Bulldogs in front by four at 20-16 and a kill from Purry sealed a six-point set win.
Looking to close out the match in the fourth set, the Bulldogs did just that, jumping out to a 16-9 lead on a kill by Rud. An 11-6 run by CSUB cut the Bulldogs lead to 22-20, but the 'Dogs notched the final three points of the set on a pair of kills from Rud and a service ace from Addison Haluska.

The 'Dogs open Mountain West play at home next week hosting Nevada (6-5) on Thursday and San Jose State (6-3) on Saturday at the Save Mart Center.
