FRESNO, Calif. – One play can make a difference and with a bounce of the ball just in front of the net in the 65th minute, Fresno State allowed the match's lone goal in a 1-0 defeat on Thursday night at Bulldog Soccer Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tightly contested in the opening half, both sides had few opportunities. Colorado State held a 5-2 advantage in shots but it was the Bulldogs who put both of their shots on target compared to just one from the Rams. Both shots came low toward the left post for the 'Dogs forcing saves to the right out of Shayna Ross.
Level through an hour of play, a bending corner set up the game's lone goal. Bouncing inside the six-yard box and near the goal line, a ball that got knocked around, landed to Avery Vander Ven on the back post to score the eventual game-winner in the 65th minute.
Megan Galvan looked to equalize less than two minutes later, but Ross made her fourth stop of the evening, again to her right.
