Bulldogs close season with 4-1 win on Senior Night

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team concluded their season on Thursday with a 4-1 win over San Jose State on Senior Night at Bulldog Soccer Stadium with four seniors lighting the lamp one last time.Â
With San Diego State's 2-1 win over New Mexico, Fresno State was unable to clinch the final spot in the 2025 MW tournament.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State looked dangerous right from kickoff, as Alexis Campbell and Tiana Beavers tested the Spartans goalkeeper with shots within the first two minutes of the match that were saved. The Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas and found the game's opening goal in the third minute of the game. Sabrina Welch sent a pass from beyond midfield into the box for Klara Chapeyrout who pushed a shot past the goalie to give Fresno State the early 1-0 lead.Â
Just over thirty seconds later, the Bulldogs doubled their lead thanks to the effort of Ciara Wilson. After getting past a Spartan defender inside the box, Ciara Wilson sent a shot that bounced off the goaltender's leg and into the net as Fresno State quickly led 2-0.Â
Fresno State made it three unanswered goals in the 34th minute of the game. After receiving a breakaway pass from Alexis Campbell, Tiana Beavers was able to maneuver around the Spartan goalie after drawing her out of the net and deposited her fourth goal on the year. The Spartans got on the board with their only goal of the evening with five to go in the first half as Fresno State led 3-1 heading into halftime.Â
The Bulldogs regained their three goal lead in the 71st minute when Klara Chapeyrout sent a centering pass to the front of the net that found the foot of Anaya Shelton who beat the Spartan goalie with a tap-in goal to make it a 4-1 lead for Fresno State.
With Fresno State firmly ahead, Shivani Battaglia stole the show with the final save of her Bulldog career as the senior came sprawling across to make a save off a Spartan shot with twenty to go. As the game came to a close, Fresno State finished the 2025 season on a high note with a 4-1 win over San Jose State which included major contributions from their senior class.Â
