FRESNO, Calif. - For the second game in a row, the Fresno State women's soccer team would draw against a Mountain West opponent at home as the Bulldogs and Lobos finished their game in a 0-0 tie on Sunday at Bulldog Soccer Stadium
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs opened the contest with multiple scoring chances, including a header by Addison Sanchez that the freshman would push wide of the goal. In the 12th minute, the Bulldogs nearly found themselves with a 1-0 lead, but Anaya Shelton's shot hit the crossbar as the game remained scoreless.
The Bulldogs came close once again in the 24th minute, but Alexis Campbelll's turnaround shot from the top of the box was saved by Lobos goalkeeper. The final scoring opportunity of the first half for the Dogs came off a centering pass from Lauren Muchuca to Tiana Beavers in front of the goal, but New Mexico's goalie made the sliding save. Fresno State refused to allow the Lobos to get anything going offensively in the first 45. New Mexico would enter the half without recording a single shot.Â
New Mexico opened up the second half with their first chance of the afternoon, a shot from Nicole Anderson that Shivani Battaglia turned aside. The Lobos threatened again in the 55th minute with a two-on-one chance, but Alejandra Puerta shot missed wide right.Â
After a twenty-minute period where both teams failed to record a shot on goal, Fresno State entered the final ten minutes looking for the go-ahead goal. The Bulldogs received six corner kicks in the span of three minutes, leading to scoring chances by Aniston Renovato and Alexis Campbell. Campbell saw her shot blocked by a Lobos defender while Renovato's strike missed the net.Â
The Bulldog's best chance of the second half came with two to play when Sabrina Welch sent a pass towards the middle of the box for Sam Paepen whose header was saved after a bobble by the New Mexico goalie.
