Bulldogs fall to ranked Washington in Seattle

SEATTLE -Â Fresno State women's basketball falls to 3-2 on the season, after a loss to No. 25 Washington at Alaska Airlines Arena on Wednesday night, 61-43.Â
How it happenedÂ
Fresno State kept it close in the opening period tying it up 7-7 through the first seven minutes. Danae Powell knotted it up after a deep three and assisted by baskets from Ashlyn Rean and Diarrah Sissoko. Bulldogs' stopped a 5-0 Husky run when Avery Watkins took a trip to the charity line going 1-of-1 to close the period trailing by four, 12-8.Â
Indiya Clarke got the second chance basket to keep the game within five and Jaisa Gamble followed it up with a pull up jumper for a 4-0 spurt. Powell made a fast break to the basket to take the Huskies lead back under ten. Hedda Koehne got her hands on the ball for the 'Dogs last basket this half making the most of a second chance basket. Five Bulldogs got in on scoring action with Gamble leading on four points in the period. Huskies pushed their lead to 17 as the first half winded down, 37-20.Â
Fresno State put up a stronger second half, nearly outscoring Washington, 23-24 and forced the Huskies to ten turnovers. Djessira Diawara halted a Huskies 6-0 run and Long closed in for a 4-2 Bulldog run. Powell stumped another Husky scoring run with a driving layup.Â
Bulldogs held the Huskies to seven points in the final quarter. Long sparked a 7-0 scoring run from inside the paint. Powell hit double-figures for the second time this season off her second deep three. The final two minutes were all 'Dogs as Sissoko scored the final five points with an and-1 and a trip to the foul line.Â
Washington were led by two in double-figures Sayvia Sellars and Avery Howell each put up 14 points.Â
