Bulldogs drop home contest to the Wolf Pack
2/12/2025 8:53:00 PM | Women's Basketball
FRESNO, Calif. - It was twenty minutes past the scheduled tip off time before both teams returned to the court after an electrical issue. Fresno State dropped their fifth home game of the season after Nevada's clutch on the lead never faltered from the first period on Wednesday night at the Save Mart Center, 67-55.Â
Fresno State played with intentions of a season sweep over Nevada for the first time since 2021. Mia Jacobs closed the night with 19 points for a field and team high, the only Bulldog to finish in double-digits.Â
How it happenedÂ
Not even ten seconds past tip off Mia Jacobs landed in her first basket of the night with a deep three. Kylee Fox followed in style with a three of her own to a 6-0 to start the night. A Wolf Pack 6-0 run saw the first tie of the night, it wasn't enough as Jacobs locked in another three-pointer. Nevada grabbed the lead on a 6-0 spurt, 17-13.Â
Rayna Williams kept the ball moving with a jumper in the paint for another tie up with the Wolf Pack, 19-19. A beneficial 6-0 scoring run for the Bulldogs brought it back up to a tie, 19-19, as they held Nevada scoreless for four minutes, forcing four turnovers. Nevada took advantage of Fresno's three minute scoring drought to build an eight point lead. Bulldogs' missed eight of their last nine shots from the field.Â
Fresno State continued to be plagued with a scoring drought with no field goals for over three minutes as Nevada dropped in another five. Williams got back on the board with a jumper, for the 'Dogs last field goal of the period. Fresno State took three trips to the charity line (3-of-5) for the remaining points.Â
Nevada extended their lead back to double-digit at 15 with a 5-0 spurt. The 'Dogs answered with a second chance layup by Jacobs to bring it back within ten. The 'Dogs continued to fight, cutting the deficit to eleven with baskets by Saga Ukonnen and Jacobs. The 'Dogs came as close as eight after Danae Powell put away a layup. Nevada's two trips to the line in the final thirty seconds brought their lead back double-digits, 67-55.
