Pulkkinen crowned 100 breast MW Champ and Kalmar runner-up

HOUSTONÂ - The Fresno State swim and dive collected two medals on the third day of the Credit Union 1 2025 Mountain West Championships. Fresno State moves up into third place with 657 points, trailing third place Nevada by 44 points.Â
Jenna Pulkkinen is the 2025 100 breaststroke Mountain West Champion with a time of 59.19. The Finland native was five one hundredths off the MW championship record (59.14). Pulkkinen is the first Bulldog in program history to be crowned champion in the 100 breaststroke, she claimed the title with the Conference's second-fastest all-time time. She previously held the sixth spot with a time of 59.84 (2/1/25).Â
Aliz Kalmar completed the one-two finish for the Bulldogs with a time of 59.52. Kalmar matched her best finish in the event at conference championships, with second.Â
How it happened
Julia Matney punched her ticket for another championship final appearance in the 100 butterfly. The senior touched for a time of 53.97 for second place in heat six. Matney placed seventh in finals with a time of 53.92.Â
Fresno State sent another big IM crew into finals with six 'Dogs, Sera Hanagan, Laura Kalmar, Korrie Tengan, Madison Caserio, Katie Ueda and Ava Elliott. Hanagan held the second seed (4:16.86) and Kalmar with the eight seed (4:21.29). Tengan, Caserio and Ueda swam in the consolation heat while Elliott saw a bonus final. Hanagan clinched an NCAA 'B' cut with a fifth place finals finish on a 4:16.59 touch. In her first finals appearance, Kalmar stayed in eighth with a time of 4:26.50. It was a fight to the final touch, Caserio took second in the consolation heat, Ueda touched for seventh and Tengan in eighth.
Wiktoria Dabrowska returned to the 200 freestyle A final for the second time in her career. Dabrowska matched her best finish in the 200 freestyle in second place. Samantha Arredondo in 16th and Riley Baldwin in 21st.Â

Kalmar rounded out the event grabbing a silver medal with a time of 59.52. Kalmar earned her second career medal in the event and Pulkkinen's first.Â
