FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team fell to UNLV in the series finale 2-0 on Sunday afternoon, snapping the Bulldogs' 10-game win streak.
The Bulldogs (19-10, 5-1 MW) were outhit by the Rebels (17-14, 2-4 MW) 6-5 in the contest. Fresno State's five hits came from five different players. Key-Annah Campbell Pu'a and Serayah Neiss split innings in the circle. Campbell-Pu'a falls to 5-4 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rebels took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The leadoff hitter belted a double, moved to third on a fly out and scored on a passed ball.
After four innings without a run from either team, UNLV extended its lead 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth. The Rebels opened the inning with a single up the middle. The Bulldogs' defense retired the next two batters, but a two-out double to center field would score a run.
Fresno State had the chance to tie the game in the seventh. Natalie Elias hit a two-out single up the middle and advanced to second on a passed ball. Kennedy Bunker drew a walk, putting two runners on base. The Rebels' pitcher made the play to retire the next batter, ending the game. The Bulldogs left nine runners stranded in the contest.
