Bulldog Men Post Top-4 Finish at UCR Invite

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Fresno State cross country team continued its annual run at the UC Riverside Invitational, marking its sixth straight appearance with across-the-board improvements in finish times.
The women's squad turned in a strong performance, placing sixth in the 5k Open and 12th in the 6k Invitational.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs made one of the biggest leaps of the day, climbing from 14th a year ago to an impressive fourth-place finish this season in the 8k Open.
WOMEN'S 5K OPEN
Nayla Martin, Ashley Villafana-Rodrigues, Emilia Lev, Hannah Garrity, Samantha Ebell and Zowie Hernandez all participated in the women's 5k Open at the UC Invitational.
Nayla Martin made a statement in her Bulldog debut this weekend by completing the 5k open in 16th place overall with a time of 18:17.3. Freshman Ashley Villafana Rogriguez followed close behind, crossing the finish line at 18:37.0.
Sophomore Hannah Garrity made her second appearance of her career in the 5k open, finishing with a time of 19:07.9 to stay on pace with her finish time in 2024.
Overall, the Bulldogs finished the 5k Open in sixth place after not placing in the previous season.
WOMEN'S 6K INVITATIONAL
The women's cross-country team earned 12th place with a total of 359 points, jumping up eight spots from its 20th-place finish in 2024.
Fresno State entered Chiara Pedol, Rhiannon Walker, Khushleen Khakh, Morgan Hutchison, Kylie Ward, Hannah Pacheco, Leah Mendibles and Diana Cortes in the women's 6k Invite on Saturday.
Chiara Pedol led the pack in the 6k for the second straight season with a top 20 finish of 20:57.7, an improvement from her 33rd-place finish just one season ago.
Fifth-year senior Morgan Hutchison and freshman Rhiannon Walker both secured spots in Fresno State's all-time Top 25, clocking times of 21:43.4 and 21:30.4, respectively.
MEN'S 8K OPEN
The men's team tabbed the best finish of the afternoon, placing fourth in the 8k Open in comparison to last season's 14th-place finish, with the entire men's roster entered.
Sophomores Noah Graffigna, Jacob Diaz and Jaden Tungate were the top three finishers for the Bulldog men, all landing in the top 35.
Tungate, a native of Bakersfield, finished with a time of 25:41.2, two minutes faster than his time in 2024.

The Bulldogs will head to Santa Clara for the Bronco Invitational on October 18.
