'Dogs close weekend with four-set loss to UNLV

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State volleyball team opened its home conference slate on Saturday afternoon, taking the first set but ultimately falling to UNLV in four sets (25-22, 19-25, 18-25, 23-25) at the Save Mart Center.
The Bulldogs move to 4-9 overall and 0-2 in Mountain West play, while the Rebels improve to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State came out strong in the opening frame, hitting .393 with 15 kills to take the set 25-22. The Bulldogs used balanced offense from Jenna Legault and Addison Haluska, along with a key block from Brooklyn Washington, to close out the first frame.
UNLV responded in the second with five service aces to swing the momentum, claiming the set 25-19. Despite a solid .258 hitting percentage from Fresno State, the Rebels strung together late runs to even the match at 1-1 by securing the second set 25-19.
The third set saw the Rebels' offense catch fire behind Alondra Alarcon and Jaida Harris. Fresno State tallied 12 kills but could not overcome UNLV's 19, falling 25-18.
The Bulldogs battled to extend the match in the fourth, recording five blocks in the set and pulling within a point late, but UNLV edged out the final two points to secure a 25-23 win and close the match, 3-1.
