1/10/2026 11:46:00 PM | Men's Basketball
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Fresno State fell on the road Saturday night, dropping a 71–52 decision to San Diego State in Mountain West action at Viejas Arena.
The Bulldogs (7-9, 1-4 MW) kept pace early behind perimeter shooting but were unable to overcome San Diego State's interior scoring and rebounding edge. The Aztecs (11-4, 5-0 MW) built a 36–21 halftime lead and maintained control throughout the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
San Diego State scored on its first two possessions and used second-chance opportunities to establish an early advantage. Fresno State struggled to find rhythm offensively, turning the ball over 11 times in the opening 20 minutes. The Bulldogs stayed within striking distance with five first-half three-pointers, including four from Heidbreder, but the Aztecs steadily pulled away behind interior scoring and offensive rebounds. A late three from Heidbreder trimmed the deficit briefly, but San Diego State closed the half on a 5–0 run to take a 36–21 lead into the break.
The Aztecs extended the margin early in the second half with consecutive baskets inside and a transition dunk to push the lead past 20. Fresno State responded with improved ball movement and scoring in the paint, highlighted by finishes from Wilson Jacques and Gory, but San Diego State answered each run. The Bulldogs continued to knock down perimeter shots, including a pair of threes from Douglas Jr., yet were unable to string together sustained stops. San Diego State maintained control down the stretch and closed out the 71–52 victory.
