'Dogs snap 13-game skid to Rams with 79-69 win
1/13/2026 11:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's basketball team snapped a 13-game losing streak to Colorado State with a 79-69 win over the Rams at home on Tuesday.
With the Bulldogs' first win over Colorado State in just over seven years, Fresno State advances to 2-4 in Mountain West play and 8-9 overall.
Jake Heidbreder led all scorers with a career-high 23 points, knocking down 16-of-16 free throws. Heidbreder broke a 44-year-old program record for made free throws, previously held by Rod Higgins. In addition, he set a program record for made free throws in a single game at the Save Mart Center with 16.
DeShawn Gory added 14 points and 10 rebounds for his third-straight double-double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State came out aggressive on both ends, forcing early turnovers and capitalizing in transition. The Bulldogs opened the game on a 9–2 run, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers from David Douglas Jr. and Jake Heidbreder.
Colorado State briefly answered behind Brandon Rechsteiner, but Fresno State responded with balanced scoring and strong interior play from Wilson Jacques and Gory. The Bulldogs continued to attack the rim, drawing fouls and getting to the line, while holding the Rams to just 2-of-18 shooting from three-point range in the opening half.
A late surge capped by baskets from Gory and Douglas Jr. pushed Fresno State's lead to double digits, and the Bulldogs went into halftime up 36–22 after holding Colorado State to 31 percent shooting.
The Rams found more rhythm offensively after the break, cutting the deficit to single digits behind Carey Booth and Rechsteiner. Colorado State shot 63 percent in the second half and used fast-break points to keep pressure on the Bulldogs.
Each time the Rams threatened, Fresno State answered at the free-throw line. Heidbreder was a steady presence, repeatedly drawing contact and converting from the stripe, while Zaon Collins facilitated the offense and Jacques controlled the glass.
A late Colorado State run trimmed the lead to seven, but Fresno State closed the game by going 7-of-8 from the line in the final three minutes to seal the win.
