ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Fresno State men's basketball team fell 83–74 to New Mexico in Mountain West action Wednesday night at The Pit.
With the loss, the Bulldogs moved to 9-10 overall and 3-5 in conference play, while the Lobos improved to 15-4 on the season and 6-2 in Mountain West play.
DeShawn Gory led all scorers with a career-high 31 points while pulling down 14 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Gory shot 12-of-19 from the field and connected on four three-pointers, adding five assists. Jake Heidbreder finished with 17 points on four made triples, and Bastien Rieber added 10 points off the bench. Wilson Jacques contributed eight rebounds and two blocks in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
New Mexico used early defensive pressure to jump out to a quick advantage, forcing Fresno State into turnovers that led to transition baskets. The Lobos built a double-digit lead midway through the first half and carried a 36–23 edge into halftime after scoring 14 points off Bulldog miscues.
Fresno State came out aggressive to start the second half, cutting into the deficit behind Gory's scoring in the paint and timely perimeter shooting. A Gory three-pointer at the 16:36 mark capped a run that pulled the Bulldogs within 39–31.
Despite Fresno State's offensive surge, New Mexico answered with timely shots and continued to capitalize on turnovers. The Bulldogs trimmed the margin to single digits on multiple occasions and outscored the Lobos 51–47 in the second half, but were unable to complete the comeback down the stretch.
