FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State women's basketball dropped a 68-55 decision to Colorado State on Saturday afternoon at the Save Mart Center. Emilia Long collected her eleventh double-digit game of the season with 17 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Danae Powell added to the scoring with 16 points and five rebounds.Â
How it happened
A 5-0 run that favored Colorado State opened the contest until Long broke the run with a jumper. Bulldogs forced the Rams to a three and a half minute scoring drought that brought the 'Dogs a leveled pace. Powell powered through for a three-pointer. Djessira Diawara's three-pointer tied it up, 10-10. A last second layup from Colorado State handed the short lead back to the Rams, 12-10. Fresno State outrebounded Colorado State 11-5.Â
Jaisa Gamble went straight to work producing three points from the 5-0 opening run for the first lead of the game, 15-12. Rams' went on another scoring run shifting the lead, 18-15. The gap was just enough for the Bulldogs to build with a 7-3 run with five Bulldogs getting in shots. Fresno State grabbed enough momentum to lead, 23-20.Â
Fresno State kept pace behind scoring from Long and Powell, each supporting with five points but the Rams' shots allowed them to turn a one-possession game. Ava Marr and Long dropped in much needed three-point baskets. Bulldogs' still held the lead within reach, not allowing the Rams to build a lead larger than six, 48-42.
Fresno State got strong contributions from Long and Powell. Long put up a six point period, shooting 2-of-5 from the field while Powell supported with four points - off a trip to the charity stripe and a deep three. Colorado State maintained its lead down the stretch and closed out the 68-55 win.Â
