Late push comes up short as Bulldogs drop decision to Air Force

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State battled back from an early deficit but Air Force pulled away in the second half as the Bulldogs fell on Saturday afternoon at the Save Mart Center, 61-56.
How it happened
Air Force looked to set the early tone behind a quick 5–0 start and a pair of triples to open the game, before the Bulldogs settled in and answered with stops and transition opportunities. Fresno State briefly moved in front late in the first quarter, using a 3-pointer and back-to-back baskets to take a 12–10 lead after 10 minutes.
Bulldogs' continued to build momentum in the second quarter, scoring efficiently in the paint and getting to the free-throw line to keep pressure on the visitors. Fresno State pushed its lead to eight midway through the period. The Falcons closed the half on a late push and took the two-point edge into the locker room, 24-22.
Bulldogs largest lead of the game, 38–26, came with a second-chance jumper. Air Force responded by igniting its offense with a 14–2 run to tie the game at 40–40. Baskets were traded on both sides of the court over the next minute, remaining deadlocked at 44–44 with 1:12 left in the quarter.
Air Force took their first lead since the opening minutes, going ahead 46–44 at the free-throw line and carrying a two-point advantage into the fourth quarter. After the Falcons took a 51–49 lead, Fresno State grabbed their first lead of the fourth quarter at the free-throw line. Air Force answered with back-to-back buckets to go up three with 3:47 remaining. 'Dogs made it a one-point game, 55–54, with two free throws. An opportunity at the line for the 'Dogs in the final ten seconds looked to put them within reach. Air Force was sent back to the line, where they sealed a 61–56 victory.
