FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team dropped their conference opener on Thursday night, as Colorado State defeated the Bulldogs by a final score of 2-1 at Bulldog Soccer Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jessie Reiss kept the Rams off the scoreboard early, making three saves in the first 11 minutes of the match. Aryana Martinez and Hayden Crotty-Romero looked to break the scoreless tie with scoring chances of their own, but both shots were saved by the Colorado State netminder.
Colorado State got on the board in the 31st minute of the game. A high-arching pass was sent inside the 18-yard box that was headed towards a Ram midfielder who pushed one past Reiss to give Colorado State a 1-0 advantage.
The Rams looked to double their lead before the half closed, putting two more shots on goal that were turned aside by Jessie Reiss as the Fresno State goalie kept it a 1-0 game as the two teams headed into halftime.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the 69th minute of the match. A lead pass by Tatiana Saunders was sent into the 18-yard box for Aniston Renovato who capitalized on her chance and slipped a shot past the Ram's goalie to bring the game level at 1-1.
With four minutes remaining in the match, the Rams took a 2-1 lead on a second effort play that resulted in the game-winning goal by a Colorado State forward.
