FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball team upset a nine-game streak riding Boise State on Wednesday night at the Save Mart Center, 75-69.Â
Danae Powell matches her career high 22-points after a 6-of-12 showing from the field and a set of three 3PFG. Emilia Long tallied her first double-double as a Bulldog and the third of her career with 18 points and 11 rebounds. All nine Bulldogs that saw action on the court scored in tonight's contest.Â
How it HappenedÂ
Emilia Long stopped the Broncos opening 9-0 run with a three pointer then Jaisa Gamble followed with a shot off a Boise turnover. Fresno State quickly broke down Boise State's lead with a 10-2 run. Indiya Clarke completed the switch up for the lead for the Bulldogs to hold it from there on out after a solo 5-0 run. Another three baskets for the 'Dogs, had them on a 24-18 advantage after the opening period.Â
Fresno State built off the opening period's momentum outscoring the Broncos, 21-17. Danae Powell led the team with seven points in the period. Boise State got within a possession but Fresno State responded with timely baskets. By the end of the first half, Fresno State had created a twelve point separation to the Broncos, 45-33.Â
Coming out of halftime, Boise State's surge in the third quarter made it a fight, trimming Fresno State's halftime cushion down to 59–55 heading to the fourth. Fresno State got key perimeter responses to stay in front. Long knocked down a big three early in the quarter and Powell connected from deep twice as the Bulldogs kept answering each push.Â
In the fourth, Ava Marr opened the quarter with a jumper, Powell added a paint score, and Long and Indiya Clarke sparked a 67–59 edge with back-to-back makes. Long finished in the lane before feeding Clarke for a fast-break layup. The Bulldogs then made their margin stand at the stripe, getting late free throws from Morelia Chavez and Long, and closing the game with Powell's final make at the line in the final seconds to secure the 75–69 win. Â
