Bulldogs fall short in tight finish against Lobos
2/21/2026 10:45:00 PM | Men's Basketball
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State Bulldogs men's basketball erased a late deficit but ultimately fell just short in an 80–78 loss to the New Mexico Lobos men's basketball on Saturday night at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State led by double digits in the first half and carried a 44–32 advantage into the break, but New Mexico used a strong second half to steal the road win.
Jake Heidbreder led the Bulldogs with 22 points while DeShawn Gory added 21. Wilson Jacques recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State set the tone early, knocking down perimeter shots and attacking the paint to build momentum in the first half. The Bulldogs gradually stretched the lead to double figures behind balanced scoring and defensive pressure, taking a 44–32 lead into halftime.
New Mexico came out of the locker room with a surge, stringing together stops and transition baskets to chip away at the deficit. The Lobos eventually pulled even midway through the half before the teams traded baskets down the stretch.
In the final minutes, both sides exchanged key possessions, but New Mexico converted late opportunities and held off Fresno State's final push to secure the 80–78 win.
