2/24/2026 10:47:00 PM | Men's Basketball
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Despite a 23-point effort from DeShawn Gory and a halftime lead, Fresno State fell to Colorado State, 74-70, on Tuesday night at Moby Arena.
The Bulldogs (12-16, 6-11 Mountain West) led by as many as 13 in the first half and carried a seven-point advantage into the break, but the Rams used a 42-point second half to rally for the conference victory.
Gory paced Fresno State with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting while adding seven rebounds and four assists. Jake Heidbreder contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals, and Wilson Jacques added eight boards with seven points. Zaon Collins chipped in six points and a team-high four assists.
Colorado State (18-10, 9-8 Mountain West) was led by Brandon Rechsteiner's 19 points, including five 3-pointers. Jevin Muniz added 12 points and six assists, while Carey Booth and Kyle Jorgensen each finished with 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colorado State opened the game with an early 5-0 spurt, but Fresno State quickly settled in behind Gory, who scored eight of the Bulldogs' first 11 points to keep it tight. After trading baskets through the opening minutes, Fresno began to assert control midway through the half. A layup from Jac Mani tied the game at 8-8, and a fastbreak 3-pointer from Cameron Faas gave the Bulldogs their first lead at 11-8.
Fresno's defense fueled the surge. Collins and Bastien Rieber each recorded steals that led to transition points, and a Wilson Jacques 3-pointer pushed the margin to double digits. The Bulldogs built their largest lead at 34-22 following a steal and layup by Heidbreder and later took a 39-32 advantage into halftime after Gory scored at the buzzer.
The Rams chipped away in the second half behind Rechsteiner's perimeter shooting. Colorado State knocked down nine 3-pointers in the game and began to control the glass, finishing with a 35-31 rebounding edge. A series of second-chance opportunities and free throws helped the Rams erase the deficit and move in front during the final 10 minutes.
Fresno State stayed within one possession down the stretch, but Colorado State converted 13-of-17 free throws and made timely plays in the closing minutes to seal the four-point win.
