FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team defeated Saint Mary's in a tight match on Sunday afternoon at Spalding G. Wathen, 4-1.Â
How it happenedÂ
Bulldogs held a light edge over the Gaels after Saint Mary's were forced to forfeit a double pair and singles match due to limited players, the match would be played to clinch.Â
Fresno State would need just one double pair to win to secure the point. On court one Klara Vukicevic and Paulina Montiel completed first with a 6-2 win while Gianna Mastro and Sofia Pizzoni's match was left unfinished (2-5).Â
Vukicevic wrapped up first in singles play. The senior swept the first set (6-0) but had to battle for the 6-4 set two win. Vukicevic pushed the 'Dogs to 3-0 in the match.Â
A tight contest was being played in the top three singles courts. Andjela Lopicic and Montiel got the best of the opening tie break set (7-6) on courts three and two. Pizzoni swiftly won the first set six games to three and clinched the match with a 6-3 second set.Â
