STOCKTON, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team finished the Libby Matson Tournament on Saturday, defeating both UC San Diego and Pacific to take all four of their games in the tournament at Bill Simoni Field.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1 : Fresno State 5, UC San Diego 4
After being no-hit in their previous matchup with Fresno State, the Tritons pushed across the first run of the game off an RBI single up the middle with two outs.Â
Mallory Vancleave led off the third with a double to left field to place herself in scoring position. Two throwing errors helped Vancleave go from second to home, as Fresno State tied the game 1-1.Â
Vancleave was not finished as the sophomore smacked a go-ahead home run to left in the fifth, the first of her collegiate career, putting the 'Dogs in front 2-1.Â
UC San Diego responded in the bottom half of the fifth with a bases-clearing two-out double to jump ahead 4-2.Â
The Bulldogs brought the game even once again in the next inning, with Jamie Hicks putting a charge into the pitch that left the park in a hurry, making it a 4-4 ballgame.
Rylee Bocchini came in the clutch for the Bulldogs in the top of seventh, as the catcher sent a base hit through the left side that scored Kealani Nitta from third to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 lead.Â
Alyssa Loza shut the door on the Tritons in the bottom of the seventh, as Fresno State won their third straight game in the Libby Matson Tournament.
Game 2 : Fresno State 3, Pacific 0
The Bulldogs got on the board first in the third inning when Natalie Elias hit a ground ball into right field that scored Ava Tingey from third.Â
Lauryn Carranco picked up where she left off after throwing a no-hitter, keeping the Tigers hitless until the bottom of the fifth inning.Â
Fresno State added two insurance runs in the seventh as Mallory Vancleave and Emma Martinez produced a pair of RBI singles as the Bulldogs built a 3-0 lead.Â
The Tigers brought the tying run to the plate twice in the bottom of the seventh. Lauryn Carranco forced two lineouts to bring the game to a close, capping off a weekend that saw the senior pitch 14 innings, strikeout 16 batters, and record a no-hitter and a three-hit complete game shutout.Â
