RENO, Nev. – The Fresno State men's basketball team fell 69–59 to Nevada in a Mountain West matchup on Saturday night at Lawlor Events Center.
The Bulldogs battled the Wolf Pack evenly through the opening 20 minutes, heading into halftime tied at 28–28 after a defensive-minded first half. Fresno State knocked down timely perimeter shots to stay level on the road and limited Nevada's transition opportunities early.
Nevada gained separation in the second half, outscoring Fresno State 41–31 after the break. The Wolf Pack controlled the glass and capitalized at the free-throw line down the stretch to secure the home victory.
With the loss, Fresno State moved to 11–12 overall and 5–7 in Mountain West play, while Nevada improved to 17–7 on the season and 9–4 in conference action.
DeShawn Gory led Fresno State with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, adding five rebounds and four assists. Jake Heidbreder and David Douglas Jr. each scored 13 points, while Bastien Rieber contributed eight points off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening half was physical and deliberate, with both teams emphasizing defense and half-court execution. Nevada struck first with a brief run to open the game, but Fresno State responded behind strong on-ball defense and ball movement to settle in.
Midway through the first half, the Bulldogs found rhythm offensively, using a pair of three-pointers from Heidbreder and Douglas Jr. to pull even. Fresno State continued to trade baskets with the Wolf Pack, and solid defensive possessions late in the half allowed the Bulldogs to close strong and head into the locker room tied at 28–28.
Nevada came out aggressive to start the second half, using second-chance points and trips to the free-throw line to build momentum. Fresno State stayed within reach behind Gory's scoring in the paint and timely perimeter shooting, but struggled to string together stops.
The Wolf Pack pushed their lead to double digits midway through the half, leaning on rebounding and efficient free-throw shooting. Fresno State continued to fight, trimming the deficit on multiple occasions, but Nevada answered each push to close out the 69–59 win.
