LOGAN, Utah – The Fresno State men's basketball team dropped a 91–78 decision to Utah State on Tuesday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
With the loss, the Bulldogs moved to 11-13 overall and 5-8 in Mountain West play, while the Aggies improved to 21-3 on the season and 12-2 in conference action.
DeShawn Gory led Fresno State with 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting, adding eight rebounds and five assists. Jake Heidbreder followed with 19 points, knocking down three three-pointers and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Wilson Jacques recorded 11 rebounds to go along with six points, and Zaon Collins chipped in seven points, four assists and four steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State came out strong, opening the game on an 8-0 run behind back-to-back three-pointers from David Douglas Jr. The Bulldogs led 13-10 early after a three-point play from Collins, but Utah State quickly found its rhythm from beyond the arc.
The Aggies connected on 10 three-pointers in the first half and used a series of runs to build separation. A 15-3 stretch midway through the period pushed Utah State in front by double digits. Despite a late tip-in by Gory just before the buzzer, Fresno State trailed 47-35 at the break.
Heidbreder sparked the Bulldogs early in the second half, scoring eight quick points, including a pair of three-pointers, to trim the deficit to nine at 55-46 with 16:36 remaining. Fresno State continued to battle at the free-throw line, finishing 18-of-23 from the stripe, but Utah State answered each surge.
The Aggies capitalized on transition opportunities and balanced scoring, with 43 points coming from the bench. Utah State extended its lead to as many as 21 in the second half and maintained control down the stretch to secure the 91-78 victory.
