‘Dogs earn first conference win against Utah State

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team collected their first win in conference play this season as they defeated the Utah State Aggies by a final score of 6-2 at Margie Wright Diamond on Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State struck first in the bottom of the third. Back-to-back doubles by Jayda Crosby and Emma Martinez resulted in the first run of the ballgame, as Fresno State took a 1-0 lead.
It took just one pitch into the fourth inning for Utah State to bring the game even, as a home run to right field made it a 1-1 game.
With Ava Tingey going from first to third after a wild pitch and a sacrifice bunt, Mallory Vancleave sent a pitch off the right field wall as her RBI double put Fresno State back on top, 2-1. The next batter, Rylee Bocchini, doubled the Bulldogs lead with a single through the left side, as Fresno State carried a 3-1 lead into the fifth.
Fresno State got their fourth run of the game in the fifth as Olivia HIll hit a ball that went off of the second baseman's glove and into shallow center field, bringing home Larissa Flores from second. Two batters later, Rylee Bocchini launched a ball over the head of the Aggies' right fielder for a triple that scored Hill and Mackenna Pettey to extend the 'Dogs lead to 6-1
With the game 6-2 in favor of the Bulldogs in the seventh, Utah State brought the tying run to the plate as the bases were loaded with two outs. Lauryn Carranco retired the final batter on a popout to the second baseman to cap off her ninth complete game of the season, as Fresno State took the final game of the series, 6-2.
