BOISE, Idaho - The Fresno State softball team fell to Boise State in the opening game of their three-game series by a final score of 5-3 at Dona Larsen Park on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lauryn Carranco opened the game for the Bulldogs by pitching a scoreless first inning while inducing three ground ball outs to start her outing.
Jerzie Liana worked a leadoff walk to start the second. With one out, Alyssa Ramirez shot a double over the second baseman's head into the gap in right center to bring home Liana from second as Fresno State jumped in front, 1-0.
After Alyssa Rebolledo reached first on an infield single in the third, Jamie Hicks came to the plate and crushed the first pitch she saw over the center field wall, giving Fresno State a 3-0 lead on her fourth home run of the season.
Boise State got on the board in the fifth inning after loading the bases with one out, as a sacrifice fly to left field plated the Broncos first run of the night.
A sixth inning rally by the Broncos proved to be the difference in the game. Boise State pushed across four runs in the inning on three hits and two errors, including a two-run go-ahead home run that made it a 5-3 ballgame.
Fresno State went down in order in the top of seventh, as Boise State took game one of the series, 5-3.
