How it happenedÂ
San Diego State struck first with a solo home run in the opening inning and held a 1-0 lead until the seventh. After the Aztecs added another solo shot in the top of the seventh, the Bulldogs answered in the bottom half.
Natalie Elias ignited the rally with a triple down the right-field line to get Fresno State in scoring position with no outs. Emma Martinez followed with a clutch triple of her own to left-center, driving in Elias to cut the deficit to one. With momentum building, Alyssa Rebolledo stepped in and delivered a game-tying RBI single to right field, bringing home Martinez and evening the score at 2-2.
Fresno State continued to pressure but San Diego State managed to escape further damage and send the game to extras.
In the eighth, Carranco retired the Aztecs in order. Olivia Hill led off the bottom half with a sharp single up the middle. After advancing into scoring position, pinch runner Nitta set the stage for Bocchini, who stepped to the plate with one out.
Bocchini drove the ball deep to center field, clearing the wall for a two-run walk-off home run, her first of the season.Â
