Overland announces additions to Diamond 'Dog coaching staff

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State baseball head coach Ryan Overland announced the addition of four members to the Diamond 'Dogs staff ahead of the 2027 season. Former Bulldog Ryan Dobson, Grant Stevens and Casey DeMello will join the program as assistant coaches, while Dominic Bricker has been named the Director of Pitching Development and Analytics.
Ryan Dobson – Assistant Coach
Dobson returns to his alma mater after building extensive experience in professional baseball as a player, scout and instructor.
A former Diamond 'Dog, Dobson played baseball at Fresno State before earning his bachelor's degree in communication in 2017. During his collegiate career, he was a three-time Academic All-Mountain West selection and Fresno State Scholar-Athlete.
Following his time at Fresno State, Dobson was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2017 MLB Draft and spent two seasons playing in the organization's minor league system. He later worked in the Diamondbacks' Scout Ahead Program, identifying and evaluating amateur prospects throughout California.
Dobson most recently served as a Southern California Area Supervisor for the Atlanta Braves, scouting amateur prospects throughout Southern California, Hawaii and other areas of the country. He was the signing scout for four MLB Draft selections, including one who reached the major leagues.
Dobson has also worked with Baseball Generation since 2017, providing hitting instruction, offensive and defensive skill development, and player evaluation.
Grant Stevens – Assistant Coach
Stevens joins the Diamond 'Dogs after spending the past three seasons with the University of Oklahoma baseball program as a player and member of the Sooners' staff.
Stevens spent his first season at Oklahoma as a player while pursuing his MBA, helping the Sooners win the Big 12 Championship and advance to an NCAA Regional Final. He transitioned into a graduate assistant role the following season, preparing scouting reports for hitters and pitchers and overseeing the bullpen as Oklahoma returned to an NCAA Regional Final. Most recently, Stevens worked in pitching development and analytics, assisting with bullpen operations, the program's pitching lab, recruiting and day-to-day operations.
Prior to Oklahoma, Stevens played at the University of the Pacific from 2019-23, where he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance.
Stevens also coached with Alpha Meta Prime from 2021-25, helping more than 25 players earn opportunities to continue their baseball careers at the collegiate level.
Casey DeMello – Assistant Coach
DeMello comes to Fresno State after spending the 2026 summer as the hitting coach for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he led practice sessions focused on player development and game preparation while assisting with offensive strategy.
Prior to joining Wareham, DeMello served as the Director of Baseball Operations and Catching Coordinator at Sacramento State, overseeing the program's daily operations and coordinating training and development for the Hornets' catchers.
DeMello previously spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Whitman College, working with the program's hitters and outfielders while developing scouting reports and game plans. During his tenure, Whitman broke its team home run record in consecutive seasons, and DeMello helped develop four first-team all-conference selections, including a Division III All-American.
He began his collegiate coaching career at Eastern Oregon University, serving as recruiting coordinator while working with hitters and catchers and coaching third base.
DeMello earned his bachelor's degree in sport management from Clarke University in 2023.
Dominic Bricker – Director of Pitching Development and Analytics
Bricker joins Fresno State after gaining experience across the collegiate and summer baseball levels, with an emphasis on analytics, scouting and player development.
Most recently, Bricker served as an assistant coach and interim head coach for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in 2026. He worked with the team's catchers, assisted with pitching development and coordinated pitching groups and other aspects of the club's daily player development.
Bricker previously worked as a special assistant for analytics and baseball operations with the Vermont Lake Monsters, preparing scouting reports on opposing hitters and pitchers while assisting with film analysis and player development.
From 2022-26, Bricker served as a student assistant at Bowling Green, utilizing TrackMan data to create scouting reports and provide information to players and coaches. He was part of the Falcons' staff during their 2024 Mid-American Conference regular-season championship season.
Bricker also spent the 2024 summer as an assistant coach with the Asheboro Zookeepers of the Coastal Plain League, working with baserunners and assisting with daily player development.
Bricker earned his bachelor's degree in sport management from Bowling Green State University in 2026.
