Fresno State women's tennis player Kathrin Winterhalter has been named gobulldogs.com's Athlete of the Week for Oct. 22-28. Winterhalter had a spectacular week at the Saint Mary's Invitational, played in Moraga, Calif., on Oct. 17-19. She reached the semifinals in singles before losing to the tournament's No. 1 seed. But it was in doubles that the German native did her damage. Winterhalter teamed with fellow Bulldog Lucia Sainz to win the doubles competition, taking out Sacramento State's top three teams in the process. The tandem is now 9-0 on the year in doubles and is positioning themselves for a ranking when the next Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings come out in January. Last year, Winterhalter and Sainz played No. 2 doubles and were one of the more dominating teams in the WAC. Though just freshman, the duo went a solid 10-4 in dual matches, and Winterhalter was one of just two Bulldogs, All-American Chloe Carlotti being the other, who won 20 singles matches.
