Bulldogs Will Be Well Represented At National Finals

Fresno, Calif. - English - The Fresno State English team won the Zone 8 championship to earn a spot in the team competition at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Finals in Cazenovia, N.Y. The Bulldogs seven rider English team defeated Region II champion Cal Poly Pomona by 18 points. Fresno State tallied 52 points to Pomonas 34 point performance. The Fresno State team consisted of seniors Dina Bernardi (Salinas, Calif.), Tori Majors (Fresno), Peggy Ram (Fresno) and Keri Pilgrim (San Jose), sophomore Andrea Svenningsen (San Lorenzo, Calif.) and freshmen Sarah Woodward (Fresno) and Malia Oglesby (Clovis). Individually, Bernardi qualified for the National Finals with a second place finish in Open Fences and Majors qualified with a second place finish in Novice Fences.
Western - Fresno State sophomore Elissa Lane (Bakersfield, Calif.) captured the Zone 8 championship in Open Reining and a third place finish in Open Stock Seat at the IHSA Zone 8 Western Finals last Saturday. Lane qualified for the IHSA National Finals in both events. Junior Jennifer Grant (Fresno) and sophomore Elissa Cotter (Elk Grove, Calif.) also qualified for the IHSA National Finals after strong performances at the Zone 8 Finals. Grant placed first in Advanced Stock Seat and Cotter was third in Intermediate Stock Seat. Fresno State will also represent Zone 8, along with Cal Poly Pomona, in the western team competition at the National Finals.
