Bulldogs head back to Ocala for NCEA National Championship

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State equestrian team makes its return to the national stage this year, heading to Ocala for the National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championship this weekend. The Bulldogs enter the championship as the No. 8 seed and will face the nation's top team in Auburn on Thursday.

NCEA National Championship – Dual Discipline Championship
The top eight-ranked Dual Discipline teams are invited to compete in the NCEA National Championship Dual Discipline Championship. The championship is designed as a bracketed single elimination tournament. Each team will compete head-to-head with five riders in each of the Events: Fences and Flat for the Jumping Seat events and Reining and Horsemanship for the Western events. The team that scores the most points (20 possible points available for each matchup) will advance to the next round. Day 1 includes quarterfinals play; Day 2 includes semi-final play; Day 3 concludes with the championship round.

Bulldog Bones
- Fresno State returns to the NCEA National Championship for the first time since the 2021-22 season
- Fresno State enters the national championship event with a 7-5 overall record
- Fresno State has not faced Auburn since October 2022. The Bulldogs have not earned a win over Auburn since October 2016, winning 11-5 on a neutral site in Delaware when the War Eagles were the No. 1 ranked team.
- That win marked the first time in program history that Fresno State defeated the nation's top ranked team. The Bulldogs have done it twice in program history.
- Fresno State had four Bulldogs earn All-America honors this season – Abby Goddard, Brogan Hill, Shelby Robinette and Paris Mahoney
- Robinette was an honorable mention All-America selection in the horsemanship and the reining
- Robinette, Goddard and Hill earned their first career All-American honors
- Mahoney repeated as an honorable mention honoree in the flat
- Goddard was named the Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Year, in addition to being named a first team All-American in the event. She became the program's first Bulldog to earn a Rider of the Year honor in horsemanship since joining the conference. She was also Fresno State's first-ever first team horsemanship All-American
- Robinette, Hill and Mahoney also earned a spot on the All-Big 12 teams for their respective events
- Fresno State is coached by Eric Hubbard in his 11th season as the program's head coach
- Hubbard is joined on staff by western assistant coach Mary Brown and jumping seat assistant coach Sara Tuck. Brown has been on staff since 2019, while Tuck is in her first season. Tuck was a standout equestrian athlete for the Bulldogs. More on her career can be found here.
Western 'Dogs
- Fresno State is 64-46-10 in its western events this season
- The Bulldogs have 32 wins in both events
- The Bulldogs have eight horsemanship MOP honors on the season and six in the reining
- Abby Goddard, who is a first team horsemanship All-American and the Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Year, enters the national championship with an 8-2-2 horsemanship record. She also adds a team-high three MOP honors
- Goddard also competes in the reining, sporting a 6-6-0 record with one MOP
- Shelby Robinette also competes in both events, earning Big 12 and All-America honors in both events. In the horsemanship, she has an 8-4-0 record and in the reining she is 8-3-1. She has a combined two MOP honors.
- Robinette also repeated as the Big 12 Equestrian Scholar Athlete of the Year
- Robinette was named the Big 12 Reining Rider of the Month for March
- Aubrey Gerdes (6-5) and Hailey Olson (6-5-1) have winning horsemanship records this season
- In the reining, Alana Becker (6-4-1), Brogan Hill (7-4-1) and Adrianna Runzo (5-4-3) all have winning records
Jumping Seat 'Dogs
- Fresno State is 62-55-3 combined in the jumping seat events this season
- Fresno State has 33 flat wins and 29 fences wins on the year
- Fresno State has five fences MOPs and four in the flat
- Sage Lindvall and Paris Mahoney lead the fences group with 7-5 individual records
- Both Lindvall and Mahoney also compete in the flat as Mahoney has 7-4 record and Lindvall is 8-3-1 in the event
- Mahoney earned monthly honors from the Big 12 in January and February, sweeping the events in January before taking the flat honor in February
- Lindvall also has two monthly honors from the conference office, earning flat honors in October and fences honors in March
- In the fences, Bridey Jones (6-5) has a winning record while Molly Stewart boasts a 5-5-1 mark
- Paloma Primavera leads the fences unit with two MOPs
- In the flat, Autumn Bradbury (8-4) has a winning record in addition to Lindvall and Mahoney
- Ryley Ferguson has three wins on the season, with two MOP honors to lead the team
