Fresno State Softball Signs Three in Early Period

Fresno, Calif. - Head coach Margie Wright, in her 14th season at the helm of Fresno State softball, announced the signing of two catchers and a pitcher for the early signing period of her 2000 class this afternoon.
Catchers Pamela West (Corona, Calif.) and Caitlin Haworth-Yasger (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and right-handed pitcher Lindsay Foster (St. Louis, Mo.) will join the1998 national champions next fall.
A 5-9 right-handed hitter out of Corona High School, West is a two-time All-Mountain View League selection. In addition to leading CHS to a league championship her freshman year, West has been a three-time Corona Tournament MVP. She plays summer ball for the California Pirettes. West plans to major in primary education at Fresno State.
A 5-9 right-handed hitter out of El Dorado High School, Haworth-Yasger is a three-year varsity starter who can also play first base. Haworth-Yasger is a two-time All-Empire League pick. Playing summer ball for the American As 18-under Gold, she has been to nationals with the American As since the age of 14. Haworth-Yasger plans to major in elementary education at Fresno State.
Foster, a 6-0 right-hander out of Eureka High School, can also play first base and the outfield. Foster, a two-sport letterwinner in softball and basketball, has been a three-time first team all-district, all-metro, all-journal and All-State. Leading the St. Louis area in strikeouts the last three years (164 as a junior, 208 as a sophomore and 172 as a freshman), the two-time scholar-athlete led EHS in batting (.383) last season en route to capturing a co-conference championship crown.
Finishing fourth in the state as a sophomore, Foster also helped the basketball team to a fourth place state finish after helping her AAU basketball team to a national title in 1995.
Playing summer softball for the St. Louis Heat, she has guided her team to the ASA Nationals the last five years. In 1997, the Heat finished first at the ASA Regional Hall of Fame tournament in Fremont, Neb., and second at the Junior Olympic National Hall of Fame Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla. Foster plans to major in marketing at Fresno State.
