Fresno State Softball Stays No. 3 in Top 25 Poll

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team remained third in the sixth regular-season poll of the 1999 USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association's (NFCA) Top 25 this morning.
The Bulldogs, who have been tabbed third for the fifth time this season, also had an individual honor as junior right hander/outfielder Amanda Scott (Clovis) garnered NFCA National Player of the Week honors for the first time this season and third overall in her career.
Scott, who will lead the 'Dogs into Western Athletic Conference action this weekend at Tulsa, excelled in the circle and at the plate to help the Bulldogs improve to 40-7 overall and 12-0 in WAC play.
As a pitcher, Scott went 2-0 with a shutout, 11 strikeouts and no earned runs in 11.0 innings. With opponent's batting .154 against her last week, the two-time All-American scattered five hits and struck out five against UNLV to notch her 17th win on the year (to three losses) and improve to 5-0 in conference action.
Against Harvard, Scott tossed her third one-hitter this season and struck out sixth en route to her 12th shutout in 1999. Scott, which set a school-record unearned run streak at 126.0 innings this year, has a current streak of 35.0 innings pitched without an earned run and is averaging 7.60 strikeouts per seven innings.
At the plate, Scott batted .478 (11-23) with five runs, two triples, home run, 11 RBI and had 18 total bases for a .783 slugging percentage. Overall, she led the team in RBI, total bases and slugging percentage and finished second in hits and third in runs over seven games.
Against UNLV, Scott hit .364 with a run, triple, five RBI, stolen base, and has six total bases for a .545 slugging percentage. Against Harvard and Saint Mary's combined, she batted .583 (7-12) with four runs, triple, home run, six RBI, three walks, and 12 total bases for a 1.000 slugging percentage. Batting .500 (19-38) in her last 11 games, Scott recorded her second career triple against Harvard and posted her fifth home run on the year versus Saint Mary's.
The NCAA released its first set of softball statistics this morning. The Bulldogs' pitching trio of Scott, senior RHP Lindsay Parker (Glendale) and freshman LHP Kristen Hunter (Portland, Ore.) lead the country in ERA (0.44). The team also ranks sixth in win/loss (40-7) and No. 12 in batting average (.314).
Individually, Scott leads the nation in ERA (0.15) and is tied for eighth in wins (17). Hunter is fifth in ERA (0.57) and tied for No. 14 in wins (16). Parker checked in at No. 28 in ERA (1.00). Outside of pitching, junior first baseman Angela Cervantez (Madera) ranks No. 10 in doubles (19).
Finally, the three Bulldogs have moved up the WAC's career all-time charts. Cervantez, Parker and Scott are listed among the league's best in pitching and hitting. Cervantez is No. 6 in doubles (38) and No. 9 in walks (59). Parker is No. 4 in wins (64) and No. 8 in strikeouts (374). In pitching, Scott is No. 4 in saves (4), No. 5 in RBI (162), No. 5 in strikeouts (460), No. 6 in wins (61) and in batting, she is No. 7 in home runs (23) and No. 7 in walks (62).
